about

One of Larry's favorite record stores in San Francisco was Streetlight Records in the Castro. Not only was he able to find the albums he wanted (as well as many he didn't know he wanted!), being a regular customer he struck up friendships with a few of its employees. The manager, Steve Shaw, had a small project studio in his apartment next door, and it was there that the earliest recordings by The Fussbudgets took place; see Room 26 Sessions (ZB033). Around this same time Larry got his own Fostex tape machine, but he still relished the idea of “going to the studio,” and enjoyed working with Shaw, so while his co-songwriter in The Fussbudgets, Chris Lehmann was away at grad school in upstate New York, he returned to Room 26 to record. (Lehmann, who was back in SF for the holidays, plays searing lead guitar on one of the songs here.)

Two years later, Dean was back to overdub and mix with Shaw. Included in these sessions (recorded initially at home) are covers of songs by former Michigan bandmates from The Tenants and Stress Babies.
